Bowling for .... A Turkey!

It was our 7th Annual Kunz Bowling Tournament 2007 on Friday. It was lots of fun as usual. Dad used his new bowling ball. Allison bowled a strike, Andrew bowled a spare, and I bowled a Turkey (3 strikes in a row)... too bad they don't give you a free Turkey if you bowl a turkey. (Believe it or not - that is the 3rd time I have bowled a Turkey ... pretty good considering my family goes bowling once maybe twice a year! lol) I won with a score of 131.

I Believe I Can Fly... at the Hill Aerospace Museum

We went to the Hill Aerospace Museum in Ogden last Wednesday during Thanksgiving Break. The kids loved seeing all the airplanes up close and personal. They had 2 big hangers full of planes and more outside, all for free!

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my sister Emily's birthday. We had a fun time together as a family. We played a few games and watched a movie. One of the games we played was called Killer Bunnies... I'll just say it was a weird game and somehow I ended up winning. I haven't decided whether or not I would ever play it again. My mom's brother Kurt and his family were visiting from California. Also my grandparents Hunter and my Aunt Soozie were able to come. We ended the night with a classic ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins.

Happy Thanksgiving 2007

Happy Turkey Day! Thanksgiving 2007 was as satisfying as ever before! The whole family was able to make it. Good Conversation, Fun, and Yummy Food! We had Saucy Zuchinni, Company Carrots, Candied Yams, Cranberry Salad, Tossed Salad (with Grapefruit, Pomagranite Seeds, and Avocado), Rolls, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing, and of course Turkey! Building a Mystery...Jenga Tower

Alli and I played Jenga and she did really well. We got up to I think 32 or 33 levels and I thought it was really good; but then I looked in the instructions and it says you are really good when you can get up to 38. So, I guess we aren't THAT good. Drew didn't play the game with us but posed for the picture so I had to post the photo of him too. :)

Over the River and through the woods to... dancing with Grandma we go

Alli's dance class had Grandparent's Day last Friday and both her grandmas were able to go. They got to dance with her and watch her do some awesome dance moves. Alli dances with Virginia Tanner Creative Dance Program. We will get to watch her perform in the spring program and we look forward to it!

We had an early thanksgiving dinner with Chad's family about a week ago... We did it last year too (Cause Chad's Dad was out of town for Thanksgiving Day the last 2 years for work.) Wind Beneath My Wings... was non-existent.

Wednesday, the kids and I went to the park to try to fly Alli's parrot kite. Unfortunately, there was not enough wind so I ended up doing a 5K run to keep it up in the air. The kids got a big laugh out of that! I'm sure I looked ridiculous. It was really good exercise for me, though. :)


So, I just got a picture of the kids holding the kite and not flying it. (I took these on my phone so sorry if they are blurry.)

I'm overwhelmed with gratitude...I'm so thankful I found you.

Today I read the talk given by our prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley called "Slow To Anger" during the priesthood session of General Conference. It has made me take a closer look at my life and things that I have gotten angry at. Here are some quotes from the talk that really help me to realize there is no room for anger in our lives:

• "Anger is the mother of a whole brood of evil actions"
• "Divorce too often is the bitter fruit of anger...little inconsequential activities lead to criticism. Little flaws are magnified into great torrents of faultfinding"
• "So many of us make a great fuss of matters of small consequence. We are so easily offended. Happy is the man who can brush aside the offending remarks of another and go on his way."
• "I plead with you to control your tempers, to put a smile upon your faces, which will erase anger; speak out with words of love and peace, appreciation, and respect. If you will do this, your lives will be without regret. Your marriages and family relationships will be preserved. You will be much happier. You will do greater good. You will feel a sense of peace that will be wonderful."

This has given me the motivation I need to let the little things in life slide and to focus on the things that matter and that are eternal. I know that Gordon B. Hinckley is a true prophet of God. I know that he is led by a Heavenly Father who loves us. I am so grateful for my family and what the gospel provides for me and my family.

Another great talk to read by Pres. Hinckley is "Forget Yourself." It talks about dealing with self pity and immersing yourself in service of others:

• "If you are complaining about life, it is because you are thinking only of yourself."

So...I'm supposed to tell 6 interesting things about me...

1. My dream job is to become an MTV VJ (Video Jockey) or a DJ on a Pop radio station. I love music. I still watch TRL (Total Request Live) on MTV just about everyday - it's the Top 10 Videos of the Day.
2. I'm the only one in my family that hasn't been to Europe ever... they all went without me. (and the only time I have even set foot outside this country is when I went to Niagara Falls, Canadian side; but I have been to 40 states). I also have never been on a cruise.
3. I have played the piano for 23 years, and I can still play memorized pieces from high school. I hate to play in public for fear of messing up. My favorite pieces to play are Golliwog's Cakewalk by Debussy and Fur Elise by Beethoven.
4. Last week I wore a sweater my mom bought for me when I was 15 years old and I recieved a compliment about how pretty it was. See, I knew I was saving my high school wardrobe for a reason...except the tapered jeans - never wearing those EVER again.
5. I loved giving my stuffed animals creative names. For example, I have a yellow dinosaur that I named Bungi-boo, a panda named Ping (who is a favorite of my friend Melissa), and a small teddy bear named Sha-na-na-ne. Also, I own hundreds of beanie babies my mom collected for me and my kids now play with them everyday.
6. I could play games all day. Some of my favorites: Blokus, Dominoes (Mexican Train), Settlers of Katan, Hand and Foot, and Rummikub. (Emily I still haven't played Killer Bunnies... ) Also, I have a lvl 60 priest named Skynora in the online game World of Warcraft. (That's fun game, but very dangerous time-waster. I would suggest not even starting to play if you have babies... They just don't mix!)

Brass Monkey! That funky monkey!

It was such beautiful weather on Saturday, we completely forgot it was November. It was the perfect day to go to the Hogle Zoo, so we did! We were supposed to go in August for Alli's birthday activity so I'm glad we finally went.

Grandpa Walter, Uncle Sam, Grandpa Dale, GrandJo-mama (that's what the kids call Jolene), Aunt Stefi, and Cousin William were all able to come with us and they made it tons of fun! I probably saw more animals out and about than I did when we went in the summertime.



(The picture of Sam with is arm stretched out at the cougar should have a sound effect attached to it cause the cat was "hissing" at him when he was doing that.)

Yo, ho! Yo, ho! A Pirate's life for me!

Chad went with Alli and Drew to Home Depot on Sat morning to do the November Kids Workshop with them for the first time and they made wooden pirate ships. The kids get their own apron for keeps and they get a pin to match the completed project they did. The best part of it all is that it's FREE! The kids just loved it.

I can't believe I didn't know about this before! Home Depot has been doing this for 10 years too (cause the kids got a 10 year anniversary pin to put next to their pirate ship pin). Anyhow, here's some pictures of the fun event and I am for sure going to have Chad take the kids every month to do the free projects. It made for some fun Daddy/Daughter Father/Son time! (The pirate ship is really good quality too - made out of real wood; I was really surprised it was all free!)

Doctor, Doctor! Give me the news!

Jeremy turned 6 months old a week or so ago and we just barely had his doctor's appt today; so, I thought I would post his stats for the whole world to see how big he's getting!

Height: 28 1/8 inches (90-95%)
Weight: 17 lbs. 4 oz. (50%)
Head Circumference: 43.7 cm (45%)

I'll have to look up how that compares to Drew and Alli later.

Who's to say what's impossible and can't be found?

I got released from my nursery calling in church today and after 2 years of being in Primary/nursery callings, I was able to go to Relief Society. Let me just say it was an amazing feeling and it definitely was a needed change as far my spiritual development was concerned. As much as I just love those nursery kiddos, it will be so nice to get "spiritually fed" on Sundays.

Today's lesson was based on the booklet 3 Simple Ways to become a Happier Family (it's more like 30 not-so-simple ways to a happier family) and it really helped to put things into perspective. The booklet talks more in detail about things like having meals regularly together (turn the TV off), make chores fun (a sister suggested Family Bingo - when everyone does their chores for he week they get blackout and get to do a fun activity), building a relationship of trust with children(trust them to do little things when they are young and add to it as they grow), are you really listening? (focus on them when they are telling their stories and things that happened during the day), solving problems without attacking (defuse the situation by smiling - it will relax you and the child), and make the most out of family traditions (brings families closer together when they have fun things to look forward to in the holidays). Our RS President briefly mentioned at the end that "we are all pearls in-the-making, and sometimes we have to endure the sand in our shells." There is going to be ups and downs in life and that's when we all need to lean on each other; it makes me so grateful for the Relief Society Organization; no matter where I go, I will always have women that can help uplift me and strengthen me. I have a testimony of Relief Society and I know it was formed for our benefit and to bring the sisters in the church closer together in love and spirit.

My new calling is Enrichment Committee member. So, any fun enrichment nights you readers have heard about, attended, or are planning in your wards would be very helpful for me; I also welcome any comments you have about enrichment!

My mouse was a little clicker happy so I went searching for something interesting; here's what I found:

1. Faces in Places - This funny blog is a collection of random images of things that look like human faces.
2. Snopes - Ever wondered if that amazing story you heard was true or not? Look here for urban legends, common fallacies, old wives' tales, strange news stories or just rumors. I actually used this the other day on "Strawberry Meth" (supposed to be drugs that look and smell like strawberry poprocks, targeted to teens and kids.) It was partially true!
3. Boing Boing Gadgets - A Bunch of unique writers search the web looking for anything and everything that might pique his or her curiosity and then they post it.
4. Urban Dictionary - This is user-generated online slang dictionary. They have Urban Words of the Day. For example, on August 1, it was "baby bear," which is an adjective for when "things are just right." And you thought it was just a fairy-tale character!
5. Digg - The premise: An online popularity contest. The contestants: Everything on the Internet. Can you Digg it? #2 on Digg now: AT&T asks CA Wildfire Victims if they remembered to pick up the satellite receiver as they fled their burning house; (Watch it.)
6. The Smoking Gun - features incriminating evidence, from mug shots to court documents to the emails sent to Portia & Ellen about Iggy. (I'm surprisingly not on Ellen's side now with this new evidence brought to the table.)

• Sarah you might like DownloadSquad.com - they have a Time Waster of the Day if you get really bored. ( I think I might put a permalink to it on my blog. They were pretty fun! They had things like this virtual Mr. Potato Head Facemaker: Monoface.com and this: 4 second Sketch where you try to draw a picture with your mouse in 4 secs. I got to level 3: the headphones...It was too hard; I gave up!)
• Ben, Steve, and Melissa might use PeerClip.com where physicians, assistants and nurses can store their favorite online resources, articles, podcasts and videos for easy access.

FYI: The new movie "The Golden Compass"

There will be a new Children's movie coming out December 7th called "The Golden Compass," starring Nicole Kidman. Chad and I saw this preview and I actually thought it looked pretty good, but now I know better. It is written by Phillip Pullman, a proud athiest who belongs to secular humanist societies. He hates C.S. Lewis's Chronicals of Narnia and has written a trilogy to show the other side. The movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and the parents in the hope that they will buy his trilogy where in the end the children kill God and everyone can do as they please. I will not support these beliefs, and I definately will not see this movie! More about this movie & what is being said about it can be found at Snopes.com
