Happy Hallow-Ling, Mann from the Lingmanns! (So "candy"-coated "corn"y, I know!) mmm... candy corn... mmm....

The Kids have worn their costumes 5 out of the last 7 days because of all the parties they have been to: Preschool, Primary Party, Library Parade, Dance Class (Alli), Utah's Biggest Trunk or Treat, and Halloween Night of course. So the costumes were well worth the money this year for sure!

Smashing Pumpkins is what the neighborhood kids were good at back in 1979.

Let's just hope they don't choose to smash ours this year, cause ours look pretty good! We finally carved them last night for Family Home Evening. Everyone else in the neighborhood seems to have carved them weeks ago. Don't they fall apart after a week or so, carved? Anyhow, here's some pictures of our pumpkins.

It's too late to Apologize...

I don't know about you guys watching Dancing With the Stars but my new favorite is Cameron and Edyta. A little too steamy for TV maybe... also, I loved Helio and Julianne's Rumba on Monday, mostly just because I think Julianne is amazing. The judges were a bit harsh! They should apologize, but it's too late. Speaking of that song by Timberland and One Republic, that is my favorite song right now. I could listen to it all day. So great in fact, I'm putting it on my blog... Here's the dance if you missed it...

We'll raise our colors high in the blue, and cheer our cougars... i mean tigers of Ogden High!

The kids and I went to my brother Sam's football game last Thursday at Ogden High School and they won! 26-6! Sam did an excellent job and got a lot of playtime too. Alli and Drew just played on the stairs of the bleachers and had fun hitting each other with the blow-up noisemaker things. (Sorry about the picture being blurry... I took it on my phone.)

Three coins in a fountain...

...or rather just 2 coins in a pond. We recently took the family to Cabela's on a Saturday (my sister Sarah came with us too!) and we were looking at the big mountain filled with all the animals (not real, they were stuffed) and we noticed a fish pond and a fish food dispenser close by. It cost a quarter to get some food, so Sarah started looking through her coin purse to find a few quarters, since I don't carry change with me. It took her a few minutes but she finally found 2 quarters to give to the kids. So Sarah gave one of the quarters to Alli and she immediately threw it into the pond. And we yelled, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" but it was too late. The quarter was in the pond. Then Sarah handed a quarter to Drew, thinking for sure he wouldn't throw it into the pond. And what did he do, he immediately threw it into the pond. It was a good throw though. Again we yelled, "NOOOOOO!" then we just had to laugh. Then I noticed the sign that said "Please don't throw coins in with the fish. They will think it is food and eat them!" Hmmm, oops, sorry! I was so puzzled as to what I just witnessed my children do that we decided to not give the next 2 quarters to the kids and get the fish food ourselves; so that's what we did and we fed the fish.

The story continues... A few days earlier, I went shopping with my mom and the kids at Trolley Square. The kids noticed a fountain on our way in and my mom told them that we can see the fountain after we go shopping. So of course on our way out, Alli remembered and reminded Grandma that she told us we could go see the fountain. So while I was taking care of the baby Jeremy and putting all the gear in the car, my mom took them over to the fountain.

Sooooo... when my sister Sarah told my mom what happened at Cabela's, Mom started laughing so hard. Then she said that when they went to the fountain at Trolley Square, she gave the kids coins and had them throw them in. Well, that explained A LOT! So my kids weren't just deciding to throw money away into the pond. They thought that's what you do with coins whenever you are by water. So I had to explain to my children the value of a dollar and that we don't just throw money away all the time. Kids do the darnedest things!

Someone ordered “apple pie a la mode” and I went back to the kitchen and asked them to put some “a la mode” sauce on this apple pie. Then I found out the news that “a la mode” means ice cream on top. My family still laughs about that one. Sorry to say, those weren’t the end of my waitressing mishaps.
31. It both snowed and rained on my wedding day. They say that it’s good luck!
32. I’ve have been stung by a bee and it didn’t hurt but for some reason I’m terrified of it happening again.
33. I helped 3 of my friends dye their hair red in high school. That was pretty fun to have friends with hair like mine.

His name was Kitt from Knight Rider cause I could start the engine by the push of a button. Also, he would tell me where he was parked by honking if I asked him. I had Kitt for 8 years before I sold it to a teenage girl and could appreciate all his talents.
40. The first concert I went to without my parents was R.E.M’s Monster Tour, junior year of high school.
41. I played Disney’s “Ariel” in a church youth play and had to sing, but I got stage fright and was really quiet; Practically no one could hear me. Probably the one and only time I am ever “quiet”.
42. I have a reputation for doing a really scary gorilla imitation and I am asked to perform this fairly often in family gatherings.
43. I can take a shower and get dressed in 5 minutes flat. No Kidding.

The Monster Mash... It was a graveyard smash!

We went to the Scarecrow Fest this weekend at Thanksgiving Point and it actually was a lot of fun for the kids. Alli, Drew and Jeremy went to their first Haunted House. When we got to the dark part Alli wanted to turn back but we kept going and she made it. (Good thing it wasn't scary at all... I thought they would have things jumping out but they didn't. That would have been bad cause I probably would have screamed and then scared the kids. I'm such a wimp when it comes to Haunted Houses and scary movies and such.)

The kids also got a free pony ride. Alli said she wanted to go on the biggest horse not the little baby ponies. I think we have a future equestrian on our hands. Drew rode on the cutest little pony. He was a little apprehensive but once he got 2 hands on the saddle he was good to go. We went on a ton of the bouncy blow up things. I think they had every single on that ever was made there! Drew liked the Shark Slide the best. Alli liked the Caterpillar Obstacle Course.

They also had tons of animals to see. There were a lot of weird chicken-turkey creatures there. They were funny. They had a donkey that was Hee-Hawing like crazy. Allison for some reason really loves goats. Here is a picture of the goat looking at the kids.

Stop! Drop! and Roll!

Every Thursday, the kids and I go to the Library for morning story time. This week they were doing Fire Prevention Week and the Local Fire Department brought their truck in. The kids loved it. The Firefighters talked about what all the parts of the truck do and how they use the tools they carry on the truck. They turned on this big fan that they use to blow all the smoky bad air out of a fire damaged house. It was loud! We also read a book called, "Stop! Drop! and Roll!" and sang some songs that
helped the kids remember what to do if they catch on fire.

Reminds me of time when I caught on fire... ok, i guess I'll just tell the story... It was Halloween night and I was around 8 years old. I was dressed in my witch costume and my mom lit a few votive candles to put inside the jack-o-lanterns that we carved and she put them on the counter. I was totally oblivious and I brushed my arm right next to the candle and it started on fire. I had no idea I was on fire and my sister Emily said, "I smell something burning!" and she turned and said, "Rachel, your on fire!" My mom was talking on the phone at the time and I stopped! I dropped! and I started rolling! The only thing that they don't really mention is to make sure that when you roll, you roll over onto the flaming part of your body. I was just half rolling, flipping my hair around, and freaking out. My mom came over while still talking on the phone, and with a damp cloth calmly put the fire out. Some of the costume melted onto my skin and caused a big blister to bubble up on my arm... but I still was able to go trick-or-treating, so don't worry. My costume just wasn't long sleeve on the left side anymore. My Mom said if she hadn't put the fire out, all my hair would have been burnt off. The moral of the story: Teach your kids to actually roll all the way over onto the flaming part of your body. Also, you might not want to buy flammable costumes.

You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

I don't know what it is about shoes and my kids feet lately; but, it seems like I buy a new pair of shoes every week! A few days ago, I bought some shoes for Drew that were Lightning McQueen and light up when you walk. He loved them so much he wants to wear them all day, even in bed. He puts them on even before he is dressed for the day as you can see from the picture. I never would have thought he would like these shoes so much.

I Wish They Were Burnt Blueberry Binkies...

Hmmmm... nothing like the smell of freshly burnt corn chips. They were soggy and so they were gently placed in the oven. A few minutes later they started to fumigate the whole room. Corn chips no longer.... ashes here we come!

Some Enchanted Evening

A girl from a family in our ward just got married and they had a reception at her parent's mansion and it was probably the most fancy, extravagant wedding reception I have been to in a while. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing pretty bad at some point so they had to turn off the four chocolate fountains because they were coating all the guests' clothes with chocolate rather than the goodies. They had probably close to 1000 people there. For Music, they had harps and a piano being played. Later they brought in a D.J. to play the current wedding hits and have a little bit of dancing. They were using several golf carts to cart people up and down the hills to their house. The couple had on display their beautiful four tiered lemon and chocolate cake with miniature cakes surrounding it. They had 10 canopies all with different foods to fill you up on catered by Culinary Crafts, accompanied with about 50 servers at your beck-and-call. They offered a delicious Maple-glazed Salmon, homemade breads and rolls, salads, pastas, marinated Pork, chicken, and something that everyone else but me had seen before called a candy bar that had a huge selection of candy and chocolates all in the appropriate wedding colors of red, black, and white. Each guest could make an assortment and put it into a baggie as a wedding favor. It was fun! Mine was probably twice the size of Chad's. (not surprised, I'm sure!)

Alli had her first primary program yesterday and she was the best

singer. I actually could hear her voice in some of the songs. I was so proud! Her class had to get up and say how Jesus has blessed our lives. She said, "Jesus teaches us to give hugs to others." She did an excellent job and spoke loud and clear. My Little Sunbeam!
